Smile and Watch the World Respond Positively to You

An old Chinese proverb says that a person without a smiling face should not open a shop. Another version of that same Chinese philosophy says that you should have a smile that would bring a good price in the marketplace.

Would others say that you should open a shop? Would they offer a good price for your smile? Would you rather be a beacon of light or a messenger of darkness?

I once attended a lavish party where everyone was very well dressed. I noticed one particular lady, obviously wealthy by the size of her jewels, standing alone. She had apparently spent a lot of money on her exterior. However, the frown on her face explained why no one seemed interested in talking with her. This lady obviously didn’t realize that her face said much more than her jewelry.

Someone, whether male or female, can appear to be quite attractive physically. However, without a smile, that attractiveness is quickly lost. On the other hand, I’ve often noticed someone who wasn’t especially attractive getting the attention of everyone around them. The big reason was an easy and glowing smile.

I was in a crowded waiting room of a doctor’s office some time ago. Everyone seemed lost in their own thoughts. A lady walked in with a cute baby. As she sat down, the baby looked at the people around him and simply smiled. Several of the adults instinctively smiled back at the baby. Before long, everyone in that waiting room was smiling at the happy baby. The entire atmosphere of the room was uplifted by that baby’s smile.

My mother, may she rest in peace, had a captivating smile. She built a large and highly successful children’s nursery in the Midwest with her personality, her charm and her ability to make people like her. When a parent walked in the door, whether an existing or new client, she greeted them with a warm smile and an enthusiastic “welcome!”

Dale Carnegie says, in the book How to Win Friends and Influence People, that actions speak louder than words, and that a smile says that you like the other person. That they make you happy. That you are glad to see them.

Want to be happier and more successful? SMILE at everyone you see. If you’re not used to smiling, experiment for one week. Smile warmly at everyone around you. Be a beacon of light and it will shine back on you in a most marvelous way. I challenge you, for a week, to have a smile that would bring a good price in the marketplace!

A Lot More Than Jewelry and Belts

We start on the premise that you’ve got your clothes wardrobe right. Now you need to match your accessories to complete the look.

Let’s start with shoes. Before you start worrying about the latest fashion, think of your preferred style because anything that you can pull off well is great fashion. And this applies to shoes the most since shoes are directly related to comfort. For instance, if you are not comfortable with stilettos there’s no point wearing them just for the sake of fashion. Once you decide what you would be comfortable in the most – think of the style that matches your dress. You should not choose to wear handcrafted booties with a chic A-line dress or any other combination as weird as that.

After shoes the most important fashion accessory affecting your look is your jewellery. Wear matching jewellery with every dress. The concept of your momma-gifted-gold-jewellery is so passé. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still great for keepsakes and looks great when worn on an occasion that calls for it, but you just cannot wear the same earrings daily with every dress. That’s so not fair. Anyways, when it comes to jewellery follow the golden rule – your jewellery cannot be more or less – it needs to be just right. For instance, avoid a necklace with chandelier earrings to keep away from too dressy. Or a ridiculously oversized ring and chandelier earrings might be the only jewellry you wear or something else completely. The trick is your jewellery needs to compliment your overall look and not steal the show. And remember gaudy is not always classy.

Then come to your hand bag. Not many of us consider a hand bag as a fashion accessory but there’s where we have been wrong. Right? I mean while as a woman I feel almost naked without a bag, I also need to realize that my hand bag would add to my overall look. Look for a handbag that’s the latest in trend. For instance the current trend is oversized hand bags. Go grab one. Have at least 2-3 hand bags in different styles for your daily use. And be sure you change your bag to match your style.

Jewelry and Diamond Stores

It often can be said that image is everything. Clothes make the man or women. Diamonds and gemstones may be accessories. Fixtures, their choice and professional presentation mold the jewelry or diamond gemstone store into its final image and provide the basis for sales and reinforcement of sales in any customers’ eyes and mind. Who needs post cognitive dissonance when it comes to sales in 2009 and on into 2010?

Fixtures into – showcases and lighting – are than also runs or minor thoughts for any store. Fixtures for a jewelry store are just plain basic essentials. They constitute and create the essential elements of image and overall marketing and lay the basis for marketing plans and implementation.

If you walk into what will strike you as a well put together jewelry or gemstone outfit – whether it is a newer “big box’ variety, a mall operation or a smaller independent of family run operation, in most cases it will come down to good choice of fixtures and display.

Yet many jewelers simply do not put much emphasis into these areas. They are either too buy or apply “false economy”. Often, retail stores attract customers in their own image. It is like a mirror. A poorly marketed store often attracts what might be considered inferior customers -when it comes to the bottom line of sales and profits. Many in the jewelry trade both purchase and source the entirely wrong type of store fixtures, cannot find adequate or appropriate suppliers in the trade, or downright scrimp. After all it might seem that a penny saved is a penny earned. Not so in the luxury accessories markets- diamonds, gemstones and jewelry. If you expect your customers to ante up several notches to more luxurious products, up several points and the scale, and you do not provide adequate support in terms of making them feel comfortable about their purchases, in the right settings how do you expect them to shell out the cash. And as well for your retail or even wholesale operation to make money.

Sure there are some customers who wish to purchase discount or even “distressed” goods thinking that they got the buy of a lifetime, thinking that any luxury digs come out of their pocket, that these costs have to be picked up somewhere – in this case from their pocketbooks. Yet these clients are a small portion of the buyers that you will meet in your lifetime. On top of that these are not the customers and clients that marketing empires are built upon. There are some clients who prefer to deal with a New York diamond wholesale in a tiny, unlit back room. However there are not many of these all in all and you cannot make a living off these.

People want to be reassured when they buy luxury goods, especially those in small packages for the money – for example luxury brand name watches or gemstones. People could buy sugar water – yet they insist on a brand name product like that of a cola drink brand. They could put their money under the mattress, or store it at a small bank – yet banks go out of their way to build giant solid imposing buildings all to convince customers that their money is safe and that the firm is substantial. Bankers after all are not known for spending money and funds frivolously.

In summary if you want your retail jewelry or diamond trade store to do well, take the time, effort and added costs to focus on store fixtures as a means of creating proper image and ambience. Fixtures do not cost, they pay.

Trendy Jewelry and Attire For Fashion

Every individual has a burning desire to look gorgeous and the innovative fashion designers are making it possible for them. Now there is not much hindrance to get trendy looks for fashion crazy people. Everything one can imagine is available in the market. The magic of fashion has spread all over the world in big ways. Those days are gone when common people could only watch delightful dresses in the movies and dreamt to possess them. The large clothing industries have made it possible to buy expensive and trendiest dresses and jewelry for the common people. Now every individual can have what he wishes.

Jewelry, latest dresses, hand bags and shoes have become integral part of fashion. Sparkling ornaments especially are very important accessory in a girl’s outfit. A matching hand bag along with balanced clothing and jewelry accentuate the beauty of women. In the previous years ornaments were supposed to be adorned by adult women, but nowadays the trend has taken a new direction and jewelry has lured teenage girls a lot. Now days, ornaments are not only worn on formal occasions but also in regular routine. Jewelry loving women are lured by the latest designs and cannot resist its charm and elegance.

Apart from fashion, a precise clothing and ornament also meets the cultural and social significance. For instance, long white dress along with white or silver color trinkets has a specific significance in marriage parties. Different religions and cultures have different dressing sense. Some people wear heavy trinkets as a status symbol while others wear it to enhance their beauty. Clothing and ornaments also differentiates the gender, marital status, status in society and religion. Mostly, Asian women can be seen in heavy jewelry while western men and women use it in special occasions only. Asians love to wear lightweight trinkets in informal cases. Men usually wear thin gold chains to provide a glamorous look.

As the society has become more fashion oriented these days the old traditional clothing has changed a bit. People tend to wear comfortable dresses instead of traditional dresses and they don’t care much about the prices of the dresses and trinkets. This is the main reason that we see Chinese made garments sold heavily in Europe or other parts of Asia. Nowadays people are reluctant to adopt dressing senses from any part of the world provided it attracts them. They just want to be more comfortable and beautiful.

The clothing industry has made it easier to purchase any dress or trinkets through online stores. Now customers simply have to place an order through their site for the home delivery at their sites. This has saved a lot of time and money of the people who love to possess their favorite dress. Special offers and discounts are provided on wholesale shopping, which makes this method of shopping the most preferred these days. People can view the item on the internet, compare its price on various sites and can order the product whenever they wish.

David Yurman Jewelry And Designer

David Yurman Brief History

David Yurman began his artistic career as a sculptor during the 1960s. During this time his wife encouraged him to transform his sculpting designs into copper belt buckles and this was the beginning of things to come.

He then worked for a brief period with Cartier and tried to expand his experience with Tiffany but was turned down. This rejection encouraged him to design and market his own unique jewelry designs which led to the creation of David Yurman Inc in 1979.

At that time the jewelry trend was gold chains and flashy medallions and he decided to buck the trend with twisted cable sterling silver, and the gamble paid off. Within four years David Yurman received the 1983 InterGold Award which finally gave him the international recognition that he deserved. His signature collection features twisting sterling silver ropes, or “cables,” fashioned into necklaces, bracelets and rings.

He went on to design and create a wide range of pieces with a huge variety of styles. His experimental nature paid off handsomely and he soon became a recognised name in the jewelry industry. People started clamoring for his designs.

David Yurman Jewelry

As mentioned above, the most popular pieces are cable jewelry made into silver ropes that are twisted into different shapes. These are then set with stones and made available in the market.

There are also thoroughbred automatic watches which are very popular with men. They look formal and rich, and go with any outfit. There are equally dazzling timepieces for women and children too.

You can get bracelets and simple chains for new born children, stunning earrings for teenage girls and a selection of wedding jewelry including grooms and bridesmaids.

David Yurman Inspired Jewelry

David Yurman creates high end jewelry but most people find them to be quite expensive. The solution came in the form of designer inspired jewelry. Professionals examine the trends set by the major players and create designer inspired pieces using less expensive materials. They might not use the exact same material as the original but they sure look as if they do.

You can have a designer image for a lot less money if you wear quality inspired jewelry instead, AND it will look just as impressive. Even a trained eye will find it difficult to tell the difference.

You can buy designer inspired pieces for as little as one tenth of the actual price of an authentic piece and no one will know the difference… unless you tell them.

Many of the wealthiest people on the planet wear inspired jewelry because it is a great way to build up an impressive collection and keep up with the ever-changing fashion trends.

Jewelry and the Art of Selling

Two of the most frequently asked questions we get at the Online Jewelry Appraisal Center is:

“How do I sell an item of Antique or Estate Jewelry?” or…
“How much should I ask for it?”

Very often people receive an item as a ‘Hand Down’ or ‘Bequest’ after someone has passed away.
It may or may not be worth something, or the person ‘Just doesn’t like it’….

So what to do?

# RULE 1: Take back control.

The Antique Trade in general are a Fine and Trusting lot, but there are always the ‘Shyster’ or ‘Fagin’ characters out there.

In this case it’s not Buyer Beware, but Seller Beware…

Sometimes the Second-Hand Dealers or Pawn Brokers (all of whom have a great general knowledge on Buying and Selling) may not QUITE know what your particular item is really worth.

So the first thing to do is get your item appraised and valued by a qualified gemologist (if there are gemstones involved) and/or a member of the local Valuers association. Your local, TRUSTED Jeweler might be both.

It is greatly suggested that the person you obtain a valuation from, is NOT INVOLVED IN THE PURCHASE OF THE ITEM.

But a further word of advice is given here too…

Let these people know ‘WHAT YOU WANT THE VALUATION FOR’.

There are several TYPES of Valuation and all will have a different price on the bottom line.

Did you want an Insurance valuation?

Did you want to sell the item to a third party?

Did you wish to sell the item through an Auction?

Did you just want to know what it would fetch?

All of these are very valid points, yet all are different.

If you are not sure which applies to your particular situation, why not check our very helpful information section on ‘TYPES OF VALUATIONS’ at the Online Jewelry Appraisal Centre (address shown below).

If you don’t want to go to a great expense, you might take advantage of the useful ‘Do it Yourself’ ONLINE Valuation Self Appraisal Kit. At such a low fee (less than the price of a Big Mac and Coke) it’s money well spent. Indeed, if you just purchased something on eBay or Yahoo auctions for example, you might wish to confirm an approximate value by using this easy to use valuation kit.

The ‘walk through’ instructions are so easy my 6yr old Granddaughter completed the form in under ten minutes. (She had it all wrong of course) but it was under ten minutes.

‘Just Kidding…’ It couldn’t be simpler.

My other Granddaughter (Rachael was eight) did it easy AND correct!

So if you recently bought something from a local Dealer, on the Market or at the Antique Fair, why not get it checked. What’s the worst that could happen? You blow some loose change – Not much of a Risk, is it?

At this price it’s a Bargain, plus there are many other advantages to having your Jewelry done at the Online Jewelry Appraisal Center.

# RULE 2: Pick your Market.

What do we mean by this is:

Are you in a hurry to Cash something in?
Do you have the time to ‘Try, Try again…’ should something NOT sell the first time around?
What are the costs involved?
How about selling something ‘On Consignment?’

Auction Houses are a great way to sell your Jewelry, but even the best of them have costs. Find out BEFORE you sell.

Selling on Consignment is another good method, as you should get more money from the sale than if you sold it directly to an Antique Dealer. BUT IT MIGHT TAKE MORE TIME.

Are the Classified Ads in the local paper worth doing?

In our experience… NO! Plus you have the extra security problem associated with someone coming to your Home to inspect the goods – ‘And Check out all your other stuff too.’

It’s just not Worth it…

Jewelry and the Stars

The walk by celebrities down the red carpet at the annual Academy Awards is probably just as anticipated by television viewers all over the world as the presentation of the awards themselves. The ladies are the stars of the show, and there’s just something enthralling about seeing them decked out in all their finery for the event. The gowns and the jewelry they’re wearing all reinforce that they are stars, a step above us ordinary mortals.

There have been many examples of female celebrities who have been photographed wearing pieces of jewelry that are simply stunning at the Oscars throughout the years. Madonna, for instance, was wearing $20 million worth of diamonds at her neck, ears, and wrists at the 1991 Oscars. At this year’s event, the jewelry worn by the stars were no less eye-catching, and they included just about every design imaginable in just about every hue of the rainbow.

Best Actress nominee Keira Knightley was wearing a vintage Bulgari chandelier necklace of diamonds, rubies, emeralds, and sapphires, whose colors were reminiscent of a peacock’s feathers. Jennifer Lopez was wearing dangling earrings and a necklace of gold and diamonds by Fred Leighton, who also designed Dolly Parton’s earrings and brooch. Charlize Theron’s tawny earrings were supplied by Chopard; so were Hilary Swank’s diamond earrings, bracelet and ring. Diamonds were also the favored stones of actresses like Jennifer Aniston, who sported a cleavage-enhancing necklace. Other female celebrities who were seen wearing diamond jewelry were Best Supporting Actress winner Rachel Weisz, Queen Latifah, Felicity Huffman and Jessica Alba.

Diamonds were also the bling of choice for the men of the evening. Diamond studs adorned the earlobes of the likes of Ludacris and Will Smith. But members of the hip-hop group Three 6 Mafia took the obsession with diamonds a little further — they were wearing everything from diamond bracelets to diamond watches to diamond earrings, and according to some accounts, they even had diamonds on their teeth.

Many of these stars don’t own the millions of dollars’ worth of jewelry that they were wearing. Giants in the jewelry industry, such as Harry Winston, Michael Katz, and Kwiat, have been lending their masterpieces for celebrities to wear every year at the Oscars. This gives them great exposure, which translates into a sharp increase in sales — especially for designers whose jewels are worn by an award winner. While the red carpet can symbolize glamour for Oscar viewers around the world, for the designers, the red carpet represents the probability of greater profits both at home and in other countries.

The jewelry worn by celebrities during the Academy Awards adds a greater dimension of glamour to the event. Whether the designs are discreet or ostentatious doesn’t really matter. What matters is that with millions of viewers all over the globe, celebrities should look like they have the right to walk down the red carpet. And with the help of the jewelry they’re wearing, they do. The stars shine ever more brightly once a year during the Oscars.

Celebrity Hair Jewelry and You

Today’s celebrity is a modern day Goddess, which is perhaps why we scrutinize every fashion statement they make right down to the hair jewelry they wear. Millions around the world spend their time critiquing what the stars are doing when it comes to hair styles and hair jewelry. Let’s look at some of the latest celebrity hair styles and the hair jewelry they are wearing with them.

When you copy the celebrity hairstyles with their celebrity jewelry for their hair, you can be at the front of the fashion trend when it comes to your hair. While celebrities can afford to hire the best hair stylists in the industry along with the best makeup artists so they’ll always look their best. While you may not be able to afford top notch stylist or makeup artist you can copy what they are doing and you can look your best.

During the 1970’s it was celebs like Farrah Fawcet who were copied. Everyone was asking for the hair cut referred to as a feather so they could look just like Farrah Fawcet especially once that touch of jewelry in their hair.

During the 1980’s it was Meg Ryan’s with those tousled layers and then there was Jennifer Lopez and Angelina Jolie with their fashion sense and jewelry up top. Oh so hot!

The 1990’s through to now, has seen some fabulous hair clips accented with diamonds, rhinestones, or Swarovski crystals. These great barrettes are often inlaid with semi precious stones and they are very affordable. There are also splendid headbands to enjoy.

Fashion is fluid, changing often, but when it comes to hair jewelry there are lots of great styles that go from one decade to the next. Enjoy many of the celebrity hairstyles and celebrity hair jewelry that’s available for great prices. All you need to do is watch the celebs to see what’s in and what’s not. If you want to look like a celebrity you definitely have to keep up with the celebrity hairstyles and celebrity hair jewelry.

A Guide to Cremation Jewelry

Cremation jewelry helps keep memories of a deceased loved one close at hand. There are dozens of styles and symbols to choose from. There is something to match every religious belief, taste, and personality. Pendants are available as hearts, crosses, roses, stars, rosaries, and so forth. Many people like to store a small amount of ashes into a piece of jewelry, so that they can carry their loved one with them wherever they go. These pendants aren’t just lovely – they also provide comfort that part of a loved one is still around.

Memorial pendants are just a modern take on cremation. Cultures around the world have been cremating their loved ones for centuries. It’s tradition to want to memorialize a loved one. Since there are so many styles of jewelry, it’s easy to memorialize someone by storing some of their ashes in a pendant that represents their personality.

For many centuries, cremation memorials were vases in which a cremated individual’s ashes were stored and displayed in his or her family home. While this is still a common tradition, more and more families are starting to turn to cremation jewelry. Now, it’s possible to even wear a small piece of the deceased loved one, to keep them close at all times.

This jewelry can be something as simple as a small heart pendant or as elegant as a gold cross. They can also be personalized with the individual’s name on it, or with an image of him or her inside. Heart-shaped lockets are some of the most popular, as they can contain a small amount of ashes and a picture of the deceased. The jewelry is available in all metals and finishes. They can contain rubies, pearls, diamonds, emeralds, sapphires, or any other type of gemstone.

Not all cremation jewelry includes necklaces, either. Some people choose bracelets instead. One popular choice is a stainless steel bracelet with a lock heart, in which the ashes or a lock of hair can be kept. For men, there are wide band bracelets available made out of silver, gold, or titanium. Jewelry pieces are made in styles for both men and women.

Cremation pendants don’t have to be used for human ashes or hair, either – a lot of people buy them as a memorial for their pets as well. There are designs for every animal imaginable, including dog bones for dogs, cat medallions for kitties, horse pendants, bird pendants, and so on. They can be personalized with the pet’s name on them. Some pet owners put ashes in the pendants and some put clips of fur. That way, they can keep a part of their little companions with them always.
